People in Design: Anna Ter Haar

I first came across this designer from doing research for my “design from the body” project (details coming soon) and have ever since found myself popping on to her web site to see the latest of her work. It is certainly an eclectic group of work.

The designs below are the ones that I really love of her work and has inspired my own.

Stools - made for the international fair, Milan (2008)

Using the same style that was used to make the Buitenbeentje (Dutch for: odd man out), Haar has been able to make these unquie legs. They are made up of layers of poly-urethane resin which is pored around a hole in a chair and after a time of doing this a new leg is 'grown'.

Cinderella's Chair (2009)

Cinderella's chair follows up Buitenbeentje. Like a prosthetic leg the glass is custom made for each chair. When the glass is heated it is very malleable and so is able to be blown onto the chair, and so giving each chair its own unique prosthesis.

Diamonds Chair (2008)

This chair is mde up many layers of vel-tape. Because of these layers it is then able to take the weight of a person.
